During the Galaxy Unpacked event in early August, Samsung announced that it would extend the availability of updates for its Galaxy devices by one year. Now the manufacturer has confirmed this information and provided a list of models.

Samsung’s earlier announcement could have been a bit confusing, because it was not clear exactly what updates the manufacturer meant and for which models. The current policy of the Korean manufacturer assumed two years of updates, so extending it by one year would be important information for users.

Now Samsung has made it clear what exactly it means. In an entry on the official blog, the manufacturer confirmed that it will provide support for its Galaxy devices for three generations of Android.

Janghyun Yoon, vice president of software at Samsung noted that today users use their devices for a long time, so the manufacturer wants to provide them with adequate protection and extend the life cycle of this equipment. “Up to three generations of Android updates” should also be understood in practice as three years of updates, because Google releases new, large versions of the system every year.

Samsung also gave an example of how it should look in practice. And so the Galaxy S20 line, released in February with Android 10, will receive support for three generations of Android, starting with Android 11. This update will receive the Galaxy S20 series this fall, and users of these smartphones will also be able to count on the availability of Android 12 (2021) and Android 13 (2022).

Which Galaxy devices will get the three years of updates?

Samsung also provided a list of models that will be covered by such a policy in the near future. Those device’s details are given below:-

Galaxy S Series: Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G, S20 Ultra, S20 + 5G, S20 +, S20 5G, S20 in addition to S10 5G, S10 +, S10, S10e, S10 Lite and upcoming S Series devices

Galaxy Note Series: Galaxy Note20 Ultra 5G, Note20 Ultra, Note20 5G, Note20, Note10 + 5G, Note10 +, Note10 5G, Note10, Note10 Lite and upcoming Note Series devices

Galaxy Fold Series: Galaxy Z Fold2 5G, Z Fold2, Z Flip 5G, Z Flip, Fold 5G, Fold, and upcoming Z Series

Tablets: Galaxy Tab S7 + 5G, Tab S7 +, Tab S7 5G3, Tab S7, Tab S6 5G4, Tab S6, Tab S6 Lite, and upcoming Tab S devices

The list shows that the three-year system support will cover newer devices, and rather those of the medium and high-end, but the owners of flagships from two years ago will, unfortunately, stay with the older versions of the software.
