Google Chrome is known for power reducing application. But Google Chrome will finally save energy. It will put the pages to sleep and slow down the animations

The Google Chrome browser is the most used browser, but there is still much room for improvement. Google is planning to make changes to make browsing more energy-efficient. You will be able to surf the net longer without a laptop power supply.

Google is trying to change the opinion about Chrome, both on the marketing level and more importantly – on the technical level. The browser wasting power problem is not only Google’s fault. In fact, the parties themselves are responsible for the majority.

Google is unable (at least for now) to force all authors of all sites around the world to respect computer resources. JavaScript scripts unnecessarily wake the browser and load the processor when nothing is actually happening on the page. Animations also add their own, but Internet users like nice things, so it’s a pity to get rid of it.

In the end, all the blame for the workload lies with the browser. Google has an idea how to fix this problem. We don’t know exactly how this is supposed to work yet. Google intends to introduce a set of tags that will allow sites to use various energy-saving techniques. This will throttle frames per second in video and animations, and freeze JavaScript when the tab is inactive.

Google has already tested the latter method. The effects are impressive. In its first trials, Chrome was able to extend the laptop’s operating time by 28% – almost 2 hours. There were 36 pages open in the background and a blank page in the foreground.

Page authors will be able to allow one or both of these energy-saving methods to be used on their pages. In the future, they will also have access to information on whether the system is in energy-saving mode. If so, restrictions will be enabled automatically. However, it must be remembered that we will only gain anything if the developers of the PWA websites and applications cooperate.
